A lot of the times, I have to remind myself that nothing great ever came from forcing yourself to do anything. No result is ever the be all end all. It’s all about the journey, so why not try a different approach to life? Allow yourself to explore and embrace your curiosity.
If you are really honest with yourself, you have no idea what you are doing.
Come on people, let’s be honest together. We all pretend that we do know – with our 5-year plans and our perfect social media accounts. But we are all just trying.
In reality, I don’t even know what I feel like eating this evening.
ENVY
I used to envy those people who seemed to have it all together. When I went to a party, and people (friends and strangers alike) would tell me about their awesome job, the excellent salary (I’d imagine this part) and lots of business trips to exotic places. *green eyes of envy* Or when I went on LinkedIn, and I’d see that someone was doing that Ph.D. that I wanted. *gah*
You know, those moments when you go on Instagram, where you follow people with perfect pictures of their perfect vacations with perfectly blue waters at that businesswomen beach. And of course, they look freakin’ awesome in that bikini.
Or whatever else that makes us feel like they have it together and we don’t.
We all look into each other’s windows and wish for that grass that always seems greener…
I disliked my own life because it felt so chaotic and unsure and unsuccessful. I compared my life to theirs, and mine often came out lacking.
Now I know better (well, in theory at least) – here are 3 reasons WHY:
- First of all, let’s be honest with each other, shall we: We all feel this way about each other. None of us really know what we are doing. We do the best we can for lack of a crystal ball. And it feels super-freakin’-scary sometimes. We all pretend.
- Second of all (related to the first), the windows we look into are perfectly crafted facades and storefronts that don’t have anything to do with that person’s ‘REAL’-life situation. We all show a perfect picture to the world. Nobody’s going to post something negative, or an ‘I-just-cried-my-eyeballs-out-and-look-like-my-face exploded-with-mucus’ kinda picture, on Instagram.
- Last but not least, we all have our own path (or sometimes paths) to follow. Even if I copied my life or my business to be exactly like that other person’s, our results would still be different – because we are two UNIQUELY different people with different personalities, strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, etc.
Besides that. We’ve just established that none of us has any real inkling what we’re doing. We try. Since we don’t have a crystal ball, we just don’t know sh*t. We do the best we can.
So we might as well be ourselves and focus on our lives and forget about the rest.
Just try, that’s all you need to do.
All we need to do is, it sounds so simple, allow ourselves to explore. To try.
Explore, improvise, make it up as you go, but GO!
It’s not about the perfect result. It’s about the journey. All you can do is try to reach your goals. You can’t force anything.
Trust.
Some things’ll happen organically because you took unplanned curious action. Because you just had fun with it and thought: I will see where that ship runs ashore (typically Dutch expression FYI – which means I’ll see where it goes).
We stumble forward and backward. We take it step by step, and that’s how we get there. All you can do is take a step forward and then test if that was the right direction. If not, you improvise.
Take life one step at a time and allow yourself to explore.
So if you continue to feel worried about how the people around you have their sh*t together, DON’T, they are dealing with life the same way you are.
One step at a time. You do the best you can, and then you have to trust that it’ll work out. One way or another you’ll be fine.
You’ll adapt. You find out more about who you are along the way and what makes you different. All that knowledge helps you in the adventure called life.
So don’t go looking at other people. Their path is theirs.
Even if you aren’t where you want to be right now, who knows where you will lead yourself? It wouldn’t be an adventure, if everything was planned out to the T – now would it?
Allow yourself to explore.
Now, if you liked this post, be so kind as to let some of your friends explore it – share it on Social Media. 😉
I’m also very interested in what you are currently dealing with in the start-up of your adventure. Is it comparison-itis? Absolute FEAR? Or you just can’t figure out your strategy?
